The claims administrator, Gilardi & Co., released a statement that will begin sending out claim forms via mail to affected customers who lost money using MoneyGram’s service. This resulted in a $125 million class action settlement that MoneyGram has agreed to pay to compensate customers who lost money. Nevertheless, it was observed that the company failed to follow this order, and their service was continuously used for fraudulent activities. In 2009, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ordered MoneyGram to implement stricter security measures to make it harder for swindlers to scam customers using their money transfer service.
